Eating disorders
About 0.6 to 4.5 percent of people in the United States have eating disorders which are psychiatric and physical disorders that cause people to eat abnormally. They cause people to act in detrimental, disabling ways, and gradually cause physical suffering, bodily harm, and sometimes death. These disorders have physical symptoms, such as overeating or eating too little, as well as mental symptoms, such as feeling extremely conscious about body shape or weight. These people obsess over food to the point where it affects their emotions, thinking and daily activities. The three most common eating disorders are binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, and anorexia nervosa.
