anorexia nervosa
Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder in which individuals starve themselves or eat very little. The word "Anorexia" is a greek word meaning "without appetite." "Nervosa" is greek word implying that the starvation has a psychiatric cause. Anorexics experience hunger, but they cannot give in or respond to it. People of all ages and genders can have anorexia, but it is most common in female adolescents and young adults. Anorexia occurs in 1 out of 100-200 young women. Only five to fifteen percent of anorexics are young men. People with anorexia are often in pursuit of being physically “perfect."
