Where are eating disorders found?
People living in poverty are unlikely to develop eating disorders because they depend on the little food they have for their survival. People who reside in wealthy societies are more likely to have an eating disorder. A person of any class, ethnic group, race, gender, or socioeconomic status living within a successful community is susceptible to this disease.
People who have an increased risk
People who have an increased risk of having an eating disorder are people who are teased, bullied, or criticized about their weight or appearance. Psychological issues that occur in almost all eating-disordered individuals include low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts, which are often results of bullying. People with eating disorders often feel depressed, anxious, lonely, stressed, or like they’re not in control. These emotions and thoughts go along with many of the causes of eating disorders.
